Student Behavior Standards
It is the belief of the Rod Kelley Staff that the general school environment (both social & physical) will be a safe, attractive place where students, staff, and parents feel welcome, cared for and part of the Rod Kelley Team.

Basic Rules
- Toys are not allowed at school.
- Skateboards, roller blades, Heelys, or scooters are not allowed at school.
- Knitted hats (beanies) are only permitted outside during extreme cold weather conditions. Caps and hats are not permitted as per the GUSD Board Policy, unless it is a designated school spirit day.
- Cell phones are not allowed at school (per Board Policy). Cell phones will be confiscated and only be returned to the parent/guardian.
Playground Rules
- Snacks will be eaten in the designated snack area (picnic benches # 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 only).
- Respect the rights of other students and play safely.
- Playing is only allowed on the designated playground areas (blacktop, tan bark, and grass area).
- Running is only allowed on the grass area.
- Students must freeze when the bell rings. Students walk when the whistle blows.
- Students must follow Ball Room rules as posted.
- Students may only go down the slide, seated, one at a time.
- Only students in grades 2nd-5th may use the monkey bars. Bars are only for hanging/swinging by your hands.
- Students may not be pushed on the glider.
- Swings:
- Students must take turns. They may count for each other up to 25 swings (up/back=one, up/back=two, etc.) to allow others to swing.
- Students may not swing on their stomachs.
- Students may not twist or spin around on swings.
- Students may not jump from swings
- Students stand behind the swings by the border to count - no one is allowed to stand or go between the swings.
- Only rubber balls and soccer balls may be kicked on the grass. All other balls may not be kicked.
- Tackle football is not allowed (one-hand touch only).
Consequences
- If a student chooses to break a rule, the following may result:
- verbal warning
- loss of playground privileges (Infraction Ticket)
- referral to teacher or Principal
- Immediate Disciplinary Action in which the student will see the principal and the parent or guardian will be notified will result if a student:
- fights, throws rocks, bites, etc.
- is verbally abusive to students and/or staff.
- is defiant to school personnel.
- defaces or vandalizes school property.
- displays any other behavior deemed inappropriate.
- exhibits chronic behavior problems.
Student Expectations While Serving Infractions
- Students must report to the adult in the infraction area immediately.
- Students will serve community service while serving an infraction.
- Bathroom breaks are permitted prior to the end of that recess at the discretion of the teacher/yard duty supervisor.
- If the student has not followed the rules of the infraction area or lost the infraction ticket, the infraction slip will not be signed off. The infraction will then be doubled.
