PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD’S
LIFE IN DANGER!

Every day students are dropped off and picked up in unsafe areas of our school and student’s lives are endangered by hurried and distracted drivers.  It is critical that all parents and students follow the established traffic safety guidelines. We realize that  this may pose an inconvenience for you, but your child’s safety is our primary concern.

Stopping at Culp Drive and Kern Avenue:

When coming to the STOP signs at Culp and Kern please come to a complete stop and look carefully for students and Safety Patrol Students.  We have had many complaints from students and parents about drivers who are not coming to a complete stop and are threatening the safety of our students.  Please allow yourself at least 5 to 10 minutes extra to give yourself plenty of time to enter and exit the school area in a way that is safe for all of our students.  No amount of time saved is worth jeopardizing the life of a child.

Drop-off:

When students are dropped off in the parking lot and not escorted to the sidewalk, they run the risk of being hit by a car whose driver may not see him/her.  Please park your car in a designated parking stall and walk your child to safety.  If you don’t want to park, please enter from Kern Avenue and drive along the drop-off zone (end of 3rd grade wing) and let your child out where he/she can enter the campus safely.

Pick-up:

When picking up your child, please do not double park in the drop off zone and then ask your child to cross between cars to get into your car.  Drivers are focused on their own children, and once they are in the car, they are ready to take off and are not expecting a child to be crossing right in front of them.  Any child walking or running between cars is at great risk of being hit.  Please do not stop or park in undesignated areas of the parking lot and then wave for your child to walk or run across the parking lot to your car.  Again, please park your car in a designated parking stall and come to the edge of the crosswalk to escort your child to your car.  If you do not want to park, enter through Kern Avenue and pick your child up in the pick-up zone.

Undesignated Pick-up areas:

Please do not ask your child to wait for you at a spot near or on our campus that has not been designated as a pick-up area (i.e., outside the parking lot on Culp Street, the bus turnaround area).  There is no supervision for your child in that area, and we have no way of ensuring your child’s safety.  If you forget to pick up your child or are held up for some reason, we will not know that your child needs help unless he/she is in the designated pick-up zone.

Safety Patrol:

Adults need to set the example and teach the children to obey the Safety Patrol Students.  Safety Patrol Students cannot do their job if the adults ignore their directions.  Please use the crosswalks and wait for the Safety Patrol Student to cross you and your child.  Please set a good example for your child by following the established rules and procedures of safety and traffic flow.

To all those of you who consistently follow the rules and procedures, thank you very much!

Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures

The parking lot at the south end of the school is the Drop-off/Pick-up area.  Please Do Not drop-off or pick-up in front of the office area.  In the best interest of student safety, the following procedures need to be followed.
SAFETY IS MOST IMPORTANT.

Please be cooperative and follow these procedures:

  1. All students are to be dropped off and picked up in the designated. Drop-off/Pick-up area which is located at the end of the third grade wings.  See map.
  2. Drive to the most forward position.  Stay in your car and move forward as cars  leave.
NO PARKING IN THE LOADING ZONES!
  3. No double parking.  Students will not be allowed to walk between cars, as drivers may not see students.  Keep access lane open so cars may exit efficiently. Parents may pull into the parking lot on Culp Drive and park their vehicles in any available parking space and walk to the drop off or pick up area to get their children.  Parents are not to call the students from their cars and have the students walk across the traffic without being escorted.
  4. Students should get in and out of cars as quickly as possible to avoid delays in the loading area.  Please have backpacks, notes, lunch money, etc. ready ahead of time.
  5. Do not block the driveway into or out of loading areas or bus loading areas.  All vehicles must exit on Culp Drive only.  The exit on Kern Avenue will be blocked.  Please refer to the map.
  6. Kindergarten parents may park in the parking lot, located next to the Kindergarten Building, in any available parking space and escort their child to the sidewalk.
  7. Do not drop-off or pick-up in the BUS LOADING AREAS.  The Gilroy Police Department will ticket those who stop in the bus loading area.

Your patience and cooperation is appreciated.  Remember to drive safely.

Our STUDENTS depend on it!
